Blog 47- The sky is the limit when it comes to you!

You know that warm fuzzy feeling you get when someone complements something you draw? It makes you feel like your the best thing alive, you feel on top of the world. Three days ago, I was in my Univ 112 class and a girl looked over at what I was drawing and said ” Oh hey Avery, I like that.” I reacted like an adult “oh thanks” i said, but inside i was all giddy and squealing because someone complemented the dog I drew. Look at him! Isn’t he cute?

Well this gave me an idea, what makes kids just off the wall confident about themselves? It just makes them feel amazing and awesome, like no one can touch them. A child who’s art is hung on the fridge is the living embodiment of aplomb. So i started thinking of ways to go about this idea. hung on the fridge? nah. mom complements? too easy. Dad has a wall of art? still not there. Baby sitter? hmm… baby sitters are caretakers, they are who molds your childhood. They are who help you draw everything so you can come home and show your mom all the cool stuff you did. I put the idea on my back burner until just yesterday when i saw some clouds from Riki’s dorm room. it looked weirdly like a dragon and suddenly the idea hit me.

What if there was a baby sitter  who took a picture of the sky each day her and the kid went out, and she came home and let the little girl sharpie all over it. Then she could high five the little girl, be all cute and make her feel all confident. They could reference great artists in the child’s drawings. Then when there were several of them she could make them into a scrap book. The little girl could then give it to the mom, proudly presenting it and saying something like “look mommy, i’m the best artist ever” (look at that self assurance. That aplomb. You go Glenn Coco) Then the mom could open it to see all of the cloud drawing with dates written on them. She could then smile at the babysitter seeing how much the babysitter cared about her daughter and look down as the ad scrolled out and it could say Be confident. Be caring. Be yourself. Sharpie.
